Alexandra Park School in Haringey, London, has reached a major construction milestone with the completion of the steel frame for its new Post-16 facilities. This significant achievement marks a key phase in the development of the state-of-the-art expansion.

As the Civil and Structural Engineers for the projects we are working alongside a great design team including Architects Thinking Buildings , mechanical and electrical specialists CBG Consultants Ltd and cost consultants Make Consulting Limited. Together we are all working closely with Alcema the Main Contractor to deliver the scheme.

As with all education schemes the project goes beyond the construction itself, the project underscores Alexandra Park School’s long-term commitment to excellence in education. The new building will feature a contemporary canteen and breakout area, giving students a vibrant space to meet, unwind, and collaborate. Additionally, eight dedicated seminar rooms will support focused learning and academic development for Post-16 students.

Initially facing tight deadlines to develop a tender pack before the Condition Improvement Funding deadline. We worked closely with Thinking Buildings to create structural and civil proposals that met site and planning restrictions.

The design features a hot-rolled steel frame, providing large open spaces for the canteen and classrooms. It also supports a mix of masonry, glass, and cladding with bold projections. We coordinated with the architect to reduce costs and ensure a smooth connection to the adjacent building.

Drainage designs had to meet strict North London planning rules while dealing with a small site and a steep slope at the rear. We addressed these challenges with new attenuation systems under paved areas and careful level adjustments. Existing drainage networks also intersect the site, requiring rerouting to avoid the building’s footprint.
