Our 12-Month Placement Scheme

Our 12-Month Placement Scheme at Jackson Purdue Lever is tailored to provide you, as a student seeking practical experience, with a structured and comprehensive opportunity to gain hands-on exposure in the field of consulting engineering.

This program offers you a unique chance to acquire real-world experience, develop essential skills, and collaborate with experienced professionals in the industry.

What We Offer You

Our 12-Month Placement Scheme is designed to provide you with valuable insights and guidance over the course of your placement, typically spanning one year. The key components of the program include:

Induction and Orientation: Upon joining, you will participate in an induction program that introduces you to our company, our culture and our values. You will be assigned a mentor and liaise regularly with both your mentor and team leader to ensure you are guided throughout your placement.

On-the-Job Training: You'll work on a variety of projects under the supervision of experienced engineers. This practical experience will allow you to apply your academic knowledge to real-world situations and gain a deeper understanding of the profession. You will also have the opportunity to work with various software packages, including AutoDesk, Tekla, and Causeway products, with both on-the-job and formal training available.

Educational Assistance: Throughout your placement, you'll have access to a wide range of training resources to complement your on-the-job training. This will help broaden your knowledge and enhance your proficiency with our design software.

Professional Development: Regular peer-to-peer feedback sessions and seminars will be provided to enhance your technical skills and understanding of industry regulations and standards.

Mentorship: Your mentor, alongside your team leader, will offer guidance and monitor your progress whilst liaising with your University. They will also assist you documenting your experience, which can be beneficial for your future career aspirations.

Requirements

To be eligible for our 12-Month Placement Scheme, you should typically:

  • Be pursuing a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to your educational and professional development.
  • Show a passion for problem-solving and a keen interest in civil and structural engineering.

Our 2024 Graduate Scheme

Your Graduate Training Scheme with Jackson Purdue Lever

Our Graduate Training Scheme is designed to provide you, as a recent graduate, with a structured and comprehensive pathway to achieving Chartered status with either the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).

Our program offers you a unique opportunity to gain invaluable experience, develop essential skills, and work alongside experienced professionals in the field of consulting engineering.

What we will do for you

Our Graduate Training Scheme spans a duration of typically 4 years, during which time you will undergo a well-defined and progressive training process with regular reviews.

The key components of the program include:

Induction and Orientation: Upon joining, you will participate in an induction program that introduces you to our company, our culture and our values. You will be assigned a mentor and liaise regularly with both your mentor and team leader to ensure you are guided throughout the training process.

On-the-Job Training: You will work on a variety of projects under the supervision of experienced engineers. This hands-on experience will allow you to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations and gain practical insights into the profession. You will be exposed to numerous different software packages including AutoDesk, Tekla and Causeway products with both on-the-job and formal training available.

Educational Assistance: During your time on our Graduate Training Scheme, you will have access to a broad range of training resources and courses that complement your on-the-job training, widening your knowledge base and ensuring your proficiency with our design software.

Professional Development: Regular peer to peer appraisals, mentoring meetings with a representative from the ICE, and seminars will be provided to enhance your technical skills, project management abilities, and understanding of industry regulations and standards.

Mentorship: Your mentor, with your team leader, will provide guidance, monitor your progress, and assist in setting and achieving professional development goals. They will also help you document your experience for professional membership applications.

Chartered Application Preparation: We will support you in preparing and submitting your chartered membership applications to ICE or IStructE. This includes assembling the necessary evidence and ensuring your competence aligns with their requirements for the Professional Review and preparation for the IStructE exam if required.

Requirements:

To be eligible for our Graduate Training Scheme, you should typically have:

  • Achieved a 2:1 or above bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • A strong commitment to pursuing Chartered status with ICE or IStructE.
  • A passion for problem-solving and a keen interest in the field of civil and structural engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • An excellent team player

Civil Engineer

Role: Civil Engineer
Location: Derby, Pride Park
Type: Permanent / Full Time
Salary: Negotiable

Candidate and Experience

  • 3-5 years’ of relevant civil engineering experience
  • Near or recently chartered with the ICE or IStructE
  • Client and local authority liaison is experience
  • A willingness to train junior staff members
  • Familiarity of common highway and drainage section agreements (S38, S278, S104, S185)
  • Capability of complex S278 design is desirable
  • Experienced user of Microdrainage or Flow
  • Excellent numeracy/general mathematics understanding
  • Proficient use of AutoCAD and PDS/3D Civils
  • Good organisation, communication and presentation skills
  • Good understanding of general processes and quality assurance standards
  • Use of own car for site visits and meetings
  • All candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Management including regular contact with clients and other design team members
  • Undertaking of detailed design work
  • Writing of engineering reports including Flood Risk Assessments
  • Undertaking site feasibility reviews
  • Comply with company H&S standards at all times
  • Other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position.

Civil Engineering Technician

Location: Derby, Pride Park
Type: Permanent / Full Time
Salary: Negotiable

Candidate and Experience

  • 3-7 years of relevant on the job civil engineering technician experience
  • Client and local authority liaison experience
  • A willingness to train junior staff members
  • Excellent numeracy/general mathematics understanding
  • Familiarity of common highway and drainage section agreements (S38, S278, S104, S185)
  • Capability of complex S278 design is desirable
  • Familiarity of multi stage SuDS design
  • Experienced user of Microdrainage or Flow
  • Proficient use of AutoCAD and PDS/3D Civils
  • Good organisation, communication and presentation skills
  • Good understanding of general processes and quality assurance standard

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working alongside side senior staff to provide CAD drawing and infrastructure design support
  • Excellent knowledge of infrastructure standards including Manual for Streets, DMRB, The SuDS Manual, Local Authority design standards, etc.
  • Undertaking and editing designs to form part of technical submission packs for detailed road and sewer designs.
  • Editing of designs following receipt of comments from adopting authorities.
  • Undertaking Private Drainage and External Works detailed designs.
  • Able to comply with company Health & Safety standards at all times.
  • Other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position.

Senior Civil Engineer

Role: Senior Civil Engineer
Location: Derby, Pride Park
Type: Permanent / Full Time
Salary: Negotiable

Candidate

  • Senior Civil/Infrastructure Engineer.
  • Minimum 2:1 BEng or Meng degree in Civil or Structural engineering.
  • Near to or recently achieved chartership with ICE or IStructE.
  • Minimum of 5-6 years relevant experience in civil/infrastructure UK consultancy engineering.
  • Use of own car for site visits and meetings.
  • Must be able to manage own workload efficiently and flexibly to achieve required deadlines whilst maintaining quality.

Experience

  • Experience in working on residential developments including the production of and gaining approval for S38, S278 and S104 packages.
  • Experience of structural design of low-rise residential properties, including small apartment blocks, including various forms of sub-structure and load bearing masonry superstructure.
  • Clear understanding of current design standards for both roads and drainage including local authority, national and regulatory guidance and planning policy.
  • Proficient in the use of Causeway PDS and/or Civil 3D and Causeway Flow and/or Microdrainage.

Roles

  • Responsible for the design and delivery of multiple projects at various stages from conception through to completion at both a local and national level.
  • Flood Risk Assessment and Drainage Strategy report writing.
  • Cut and Fill ground modelling.
  • Production of Site Appraisals.
  • Regular contact with clients, other design team members and attendance at meetings.
