Derby University adds more Student Accommodation to the city!

The Croft is a £14.5m 9 storey student accommodation blocks provide Derby University with state of the art new housing for their students in the heart of Derby’s affluent Cathedral Quarter area.
Jackson Purdue Lever were pleased to provide Prosperity Capital and DW Hicks with Structural Engineering and the design and detailing of external works and drainage.
To inform the design process Jackson Purdue Lever prepared Geo-Environmental Reports and a Flood Risk Assessment. The flood risk assessment supported the planning process determining a suitable floor levels and that the development did not give rise to increased flood risk offsite.
At an early during the site works an 18th Century below ground cistern was uncovered which was required to be inspected by an Archaeologist . This feature required special consideration in the design of the substructure.
The structure to Block A was supported on a piled raft to with Block B including a reinforced concrete transfer slab at first floor level to accommodate open plan amenity space at ground floor level. Upper floors of both buildings are constructed from lightweight steel Fusion system with precast concrete lift shafts.
The completion date for the project is only around the corner – September 2019
