Historic Friar Gate Goods Yard has planning submitted!

We are delighted to be a part of the collaborative effort between Wavensmere Homes and Clowes Developments, which has resulted in the successful submission of planning and listed building application to Derby City Council for the historic Friar Gate Goods Yard development within Derby City.

Successful Submission of Planning Permission

In our role in assisting with the planning submission, we have had the privilege of providing a diverse range of our Civil and Structural Services. These services are instrumental in ensuring the realisation of the vision to transform two prominent Grade II listed structures into more than 110,000 square feet of commercial space, accompanied by plans for 276 new residences across the expansive 11.5-acre (4.96Ha) site.

The services we have offered so far encompass:

  • Conducting a comprehensive Flood Risk Assessment
  • Employing Hydraulic Modeling to understand water dynamics
  • Developing a Drainage Strategy that includes Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
  • Performing a Structural Assessment of the historic warehouse and engine house, which also involved addressing fire-damaged ironwork
  • Conducting a thorough Transport Assessment

Ensuring the future through Sustainability

The dedicated team has diligently worked towards ensuring that the redevelopment proposals prioritise sustainability. This commitment is evident in the proposals use of low-carbon materials, adoption of modern construction techniques, and the integration of renewable energy generation methods. Moreover, the project aims to preserve the majority of the protected mature trees on the site, contributing to enhanced biodiversity through a series of eco-friendly initiatives.

Holding special significance to the company

This redevelopment holds special significance for our company, not only because our headquarters are located in Derby, but also due to the development being one of the first projects in the office when we were founded back in April 2009. We are eagerly anticipating how this innovative scheme and its sustainable vision will enrich the vibrancy of Derby City Centre.
